About Board Dynamics

Expert advice for better boards

At Board Dynamics, we don’t believe in ticking boxes or following rules for their own sake – we just want to make sure your board works for your business. Every business has unique needs, so a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work.

We work with you to find the right mix of personalities, views, and expertise for your board; and we help to establish a culture of respect, communication, and constructive dissent.

People are the key to a great board – just as our people are the heart of our business. At Board Dynamics, our team has the experience and expertise to give board chairs and directors independent, informed advice. Established in 2009, we work to create effective, impactful boards and committees though expert advice and practical guidance.  We stay current on global hot topics through annual training at Stanford, Harvard and Cambridge University.

Our leadership team has extensive global experience in a diverse range of industries with expertise in Board and Governance roles.

Henri Eliot – Founder and Chief Executive

Henri Eliot has retired from more boards and institutes than most people have joined, so founding Board Dynamics in 2009 was a logical step. He now uses his experience to help boards function at their peak.

Henri has an international education and broad experience.  He received his LLB (Hons) from the University of London, his bachelor of arts degree in political science from McGill University, his MBA from Richmond University, Master’s in Corporate and Commercial Law from the University of Auckland, a Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship from the University of Cambridge (Judge Business School) and recently completed a Master’s in Sustainability Leadership from the University of Cambridge.

Henri also completed the prestigious MIT Global Entrepreneurship Bootcamp and was awarded a certificate in New Ventures Leadership from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

His senior executive career has followed a similar path, working with JP Morgan Chase and PwC in the UK, Deloitte in New York and BMO (Bank of Montreal) in Toronto.

Henri is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand, accredited Farm Debt Mediator, Professional member of Resolution Institute and Associate Member of Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand. He trained as a mediator at Harvard Law School.

Along with his work as an executive, Henri is a former business columnist and regular contributor to the NZ Herald, Stuff and National Business Review. His interests range from technology to fine wine and music. Henri published his first book in 2007 on corporate governance entitled Board Shorts. The revised edition entitled Board Shorts The Next Wave will be released in late 2021.

Henri is currently Chairman Balle Bros Group, Dodson Motorsport, Cameron Group, Trustee Plunket Foundation and Chair University of Auckland Global Studies Council.
